ISD Elementary Computers and Technology Overview

Grade Pre-K4 to 5th have computer class scheduled once every 6 days in the computer lab. These computer courses are used to teach essential computer skills and to extend skills and concepts from their core subjects. In addition to these regularly scheduled computer classes, students have access to classroom computers, mobile computer labs, an iPad cart, and the computer lab.

Grade PK4

Students develop hand-eye coordination and skills through computer play, exploration, and creation.

Grade Kindergarten

Students identify the major parts of a computer and demonstrate proper care of software and hardware. They develop basic mouse and keyboard skills. Students begin to use software to draw and type text.

Grade 1

Students use interactive educational programs to develop and practice skills from the core subjects. As the year progresses, they create multimedia assignments. Students begin to learn how to access to network resources.

Grade 2

Students use software to reinforce core subject skills. Students begin guided exploration of the Internet. They are introduced to safety issues related to the Internet.  

Grade 3

Students develop keyboarding skills in this grade level. In addition, students continue to use applications to reinforce core subject skills and review how to be safe and appropriate on the Internet. Basic electronic research strategies and concepts are developed.

Grade 4 and 5

These years focus on safe and responsible use of the Internet and electronic resources. Skills include: appropriate use of school email, staying safe on the Internet, and academic honesty.
